The short version
AR Headtracker turns your phone's camera and motion sensors into a 6DOF head tracker for OpenTrack on your PC.
The app processes the camera image and motion sensors on your device to work out how your head is moving. It has no user accounts and runs no server of its own. The only thing it sends off the phone is a stream of position and rotation numbers, over your own local network, to a PC address you enter yourself. The camera image itself is never stored or transmitted. The only data reaching a third party is what Google's advertising and billing services collect, described below.
Camera and motion sensors
To track your head, AR Headtracker uses Google's ARCore, which reads your phone's camera together with its motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope). This happens live, on your device, only while tracking is running. The app uses the camera feed solely to compute the phone's position and orientation in space.
AR Headtracker does not save photos or video, does not use the microphone, and does not access the camera in the background. Camera frames are processed in memory for tracking and then discarded; they are never written to storage, uploaded to us, or sent to any third party.
The tracking data you send
When you tap Start, the app sends a continuous stream of six numbers, three for position and three for rotation, as UDP network packets to the IP address and port you type into the app. This is intended for a computer on your own local network running OpenTrack.
These packets contain only pose numbers. They contain no images, no personal information, and no device identifiers. AR Headtracker does not receive this stream back and does not store it; where it goes is entirely determined by the address you enter. Sending it over an untrusted network is your choice, so point it only at a machine you control.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Unless you purchase ad removal, AR Headtracker shows a banner ad supplied by Google AdMob. To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:
- your device's advertising identifier and general device information (model, OS version, language, coarse region);
- approximate, non-precise location inferred from your IP address;
- ad interaction data (impressions and clicks) used to serve and measure ads and to detect invalid activity.
This data is handled by Google under its own privacy policy. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, AR Headtracker shows you a Google-certified consent form (via the User Messaging Platform) before requesting personalized ads, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time from within the app.
Removing ads (Google Play Billing)
AR Headtracker offers a one-time in-app purchase that removes all ads. The purchase is processed by Google Play Billing; AR Headtracker never sees or stores your payment details. The app only learns whether the ad-removal entitlement is owned, so it can hide ads and restore your purchase on a new device. Payment handling is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
What AR Headtracker does not do
- No accounts, sign-in, or profiles.
- No saving or transmission of camera images or video.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs beyond what Google AdMob requires to serve ads.
- No selling or sharing of your personal data.
Children
AR Headtracker is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your choices
- Buy ad removal to stop ad-related data collection by the ads SDK.
- Reset or delete your advertising identifier in Android Settings, Privacy, Ads.
- In the EEA/UK/Switzerland, change your ad-consent choice from within the app.
- Stop tracking at any time to end all camera use and network sending.
